A couple of weekends ago, my family and I went to Baguio. As per usual in our family, plans were made at the last minute. Plans to go to Baguio were made on a Friday, and we were to go there the next day. My plans to clean house during the weekend were cancelled. I usually hate it whenever plans I made need to be cancelled because of a last minute decision that I have no say in, but that week I wasn’t the least bit upset.
I rarely go out of the house these days so that weekend outing was a welcome change. I slept for most of the trip, of course, but I managed to stay awake for about 2 hours because we played Monopoly Deal. It is such a fun game. I want to buy next the card version of Cluedo.
It was my mom’s birthday week so we went to Our Lady of Manaoag shrine in Pangasinan first (my mom goes there every year on her birthday week). I’m not really a practicing Catholic, but my mom would be heartbroken if she knew. So I kinda went along. I even lit a “love candle” which was in a shape of a rose. I wanted a career/work candle, but my mom made it a point to buy me a love candle and announce to all those in the queue that I am in dire need of a it… A love candle. My gulay, inay.
After church, we continued on to Baguio. We played more Monopoly Deal. After we got dizzy and tired from picking up the cards after they kept on falling and slipping, I slept again. When I woke up, we were already in Baguio. We ate, then walked around Burnham park and Session Road. On our way back to where we were staying for the night, we passed by the rollerskating rink in Burnham park and we had this amazing idea of trying out rollerskating/rollerblading. I haven’t tried rollerblading, and the last time I was in the same skating rink about 15 years ago, I fell on my bum really hard while I was on roller skates. I wasn’t able to use up all my time because I was too traumatized then.
Anyway, back to the amazing idea, we went ahead and renter rollerblades because apparently, roller blades are easier to use than roller skates. I was feeling adventurous and confident but all of that disintegrated the moment I tried to stand up after putting the skates on. My gulay. Anak ng teteng. I was so scared. My dad had to accompany me (transalation: pull me) into the rink. I was so afraid to let go. Good thing my younger brother and youngest sister know how to rollerblade (the rascals), so my other younger sister and I each had a tutor, so to speak. We only rented the skates for 30 minutes, and us two newbies spent about 26 minutes holding onto the railing. My feet and shins hurt, and I fell on my bum 3 times. The 3rd fall made me think “what the heck” and just tried to skate without caring if I would wipe out again or not. Surprisingly, I didn’t fall anymore, and I was even able to skate a few meters without holding onto the railing. Achievement! My younger sister wasn’t able to accomplish the same feat and was that night’s LOSER. Heh.
After the skating we went and ate dinner then slept after playing a couple more rounds of Monopoly Deal. It is more fun playing it when you have something flat and even to put your cards on.
Overall, it was a fun day, only because any time spent with family is always bound to be fun.
